Assessment

Assessment goes by many names (testing, examination, evaluation), and the way psychologists approach this process depends on a number of factors. Some common motivations for testing include clarifying a diagnosis, guiding treatment, preparing documentation, determining level of functioning, establishing a baseline, or deepening understanding.

At Blindspot, you’re not just paying for a diagnosis; you’re paying for insight, clarity, and direction. This is why all of our assessments include:

  • Initial consultation to clarify referral questions and goals
  • Comprehensive record review (if applicable)
  • In-depth clinical interviews
  • Standardized and empirically supported testing tools
  • Scoring and interpretation of test results
  • Integration of findings into a meaningful psychological narrative
  • Written report summarizing diagnoses (if applicable), insights, and recommendations
  • Feedback session to discuss results, answer questions, and outline next steps

Is an Assessment Right for You?
If you’re feeling stuck, misunderstood, or unsure of what’s really going on beneath the surface, a psychological or neuropsychological assessment can offer powerful clarity. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, attention/memory difficulties, mood swings, trauma, or relationship patterns that keep repeating, an in-depth evaluation can help connect the dots, revealing not just what is happening, but why. We don’t just diagnose; we help you understand yourself more deeply, so you can move forward with insight, confidence, and a clear path ahead.

Psychological Assessment
Our psychological assessments are not one-size-fits-all. They are collaborative and guided by your unique questions, concerns, and goals. Whether you’re trying to make sense of emotional difficulties, exploring the possibility of a mental health diagnosis, or navigating a complex life situation, we begin by asking: What do you want to understand better about yourself?

From that starting point, we co-construct an experience that is insightful, compassionate, and clinically grounded. Some assessments are brief and focused, while others take a more expansive view of your psychological landscape. Regardless of the format, our purpose remains steady: to offer meaningful perspective that can support emotional healing, foster greater self-awareness, and help you move forward with intention.

We use a multi-method approach that may include:

  • Comprehensive interviews and a review of relevant background information
  • Structured questionnaires that explore mood, behavior, and relationships
  • Performance-based instruments that access deeper, often unconscious aspects of functioning
  • Measures of mental efficiency, reasoning style, and cognitive patterns

While a diagnostic formulation will be included, our broader commitment is to illuminate the psychological, emotional, and interpersonal themes that influence how you experience yourself and others. In this context, assessment becomes more than information-gathering. It becomes a space for reflection, emotional discovery, and direction. Many clients leave feeling affirmed, less burdened by shame, and more empowered to make meaningful decisions in their lives.

This process may be right for you if you are:

  • Hoping to explore aspects of yourself that feel confusing or conflicted
  • Examining identity, relationships, trauma, or longstanding emotional patterns
  • Considering therapy or another form of treatment and want to explore what might be most helpful
  • Encountering blocks in your current therapeutic work or feeling unsure about the path ahead
  • Trying to make sense of distress that feels multifaceted or difficult to name
  • Seeking documentation to support accommodations, clinical recommendations, or care planning
  • Looking for a process that feels more human, responsive, and thoughtful than past evaluations

Cognitive / Intellectual Assessment
Cognitive / intellectual assessments evaluate how a person thinks, learns, and processes information. These evaluations are commonly used to understand overall intellectual functioning, identify giftedness, detect learning disabilities, or support educational planning. We assess domains such as verbal reasoning, visual-spatial skills, working memory, and processing speed, using gold-standard tools and thoughtful interpretation. This type of assessment is often helpful for children, adolescents, or adults who are struggling academically or professionally and want to better understand how they learn best.

What is assessed?

  • General intelligence / IQ
  • Giftedness
  • Intellectual disability
  • Learning differences, needs, and disabilities
  • ADHD
  • Eligibility for school accommodations or services

Neuropsychological Assessment
Neuropsychological evaluations assess how brain functioning affects thinking, behavior, and emotion. These assessments are useful for understanding the impact of brain injuries, neurological conditions (e.g., Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementia processes, stroke, epilepsy), medical illnesses, or psychiatric concerns that affect cognition. We evaluate a wide range of domains, including memory, attention, executive functioning, language, visual processing, and motor skills, using a detailed, integrative approach. Our neuropsychological assessments also include a review of emotional and personality functioning, so we can provide a full picture of cognitive strengths, vulnerabilities, and treatment needs. Whether you’re facing new cognitive changes or long-standing challenges, these evaluations help explain what’s happening and guide next steps for care, recovery, or support.

What is assessed?

  • Brain-behavior relationships
  • Medical or neurological illness impacting thinking or behavior
  • Cognitive change or decline
  • Attention and executive functioning
  • Memory
  • Language processing
  • Visual-perceptual skills
  • Motor functioning

Testing / Learning Accommodations Evaluation
Applying for standardized testing accommodations (e.g., SAT, ACT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, or board exams) can be a confusing and demanding process. We offer comprehensive evaluations that assess for learning disabilities, attention disorders, and cognitive processing challenges that may interfere with academic or test performance. These assessments include both psychological and academic testing tailored to meet the documentation standards of university-based disability and accessibility services and high-stakes testing organizations. As licensed psychologists, we provide impartial evaluations based on clinical data, not guarantees. While we cannot influence the final decision regarding accommodations, our goal is to help you navigate the process with clarity and confidence, supported by a thorough and well-documented assessment.
